PML-N Leaders Strategize for AJK Government Formation Amid Elections

In a significant meeting held in Lahore, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif led discussions on the formation of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government, focusing on potential candidates for the prime ministerial position. The meeting took place as six candidates prepared to contest five reserved women's seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly.

Among the prominent figures vying for the top office are Shah Ghulam Qadir and Tariq Farooq, who have emerged as frontrunners for the party's nomination. With the political landscape shifting, the party is also evaluating the overall political situation in Pakistan, including the health of Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, and recent Supreme Court rulings.

The PML-N parliamentary party in AJK convened to finalize their election strategy ahead of Monday's vote for seven reserved assembly seats. Chaired by Shah Ghulam Qadir, the gathering included notable attendees like Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Senator Anusha Rahman. The leadership expressed unwavering support for Nawaz Sharif and other key leaders, emphasizing a commitment to development and adherence to constitutional principles.

A resolution passed during the meeting reiterated the party's dedication to the ideology of accession to Pakistan and the slogan “Kashmir Banega Pakistan.” It also condemned India’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir, urging the international community to address what they term war crimes occurring in the region since the revocation of its special status in 2019.

As the elections approach, six candidates, including PML-N’s Riffat Abid and PPP’s Farzana Yaqoob, compete for women’s reserved seats. The polling will take place from 10 AM to 1 PM on Monday, with the results expected to shape the new assembly's composition. The inaugural session has been scheduled for 2 PM, where newly elected members will take their oaths.
