Remembering Paul M. Pollard: Esteemed Camera Operator Dies at 84

Paul M. Pollard, a distinguished camera operator known for his contributions to films and television, passed away at the age of 84 on August 1 due to heart complications. His daughter, Georgia Pollard, confirmed his death at Southern California Hospital in Culver City.

Born on April 11, 1942, Pollard was immersed in the film industry from a young age, being the son of special effects expert A. Paul Pollard at 20th Century Fox. His impressive career included working on iconic projects such as the Oscar-winning Bound for Glory and the controversial Heaven’s Gate.

Pollard's expertise caught the eye of renowned cinematographer Haskell Wexler, leading to collaborations on both Bound for Glory and Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip. He also contributed to documentaries like 16 Days of Glory, which celebrated the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

His extensive filmography features titles like Zoot Suit, Air America, and L.A. Story, alongside notable television shows including Northern Exposure and The Larry Sanders Show. Pollard's legacy extends beyond his work, as he is survived by his son, Justin, grandchildren Aurelia and Juliet, and sister JoAnn.
