The Russian government is moving forward with a new legislative proposal that would empower rescue workers within the Emergency Situations Ministry to utilize firearms under specific circumstances. This decision, reported by Vedomosti, is intended to enhance the safety of personnel during potentially dangerous operations.
According to the draft legislation, firearms can be employed to thwart vehicle seizures or protect against threats to the lives of military and Federal Fire Service members. However, a warning must precede the use of any weapon, except in urgent situations involving combat vehicles.
Anatoly Vyborny, a deputy in the State Duma and one of the bill's co-authors, emphasized that the need for armed protection could arise during demining efforts or humanitarian aid deliveries in conflict zones. The commission approved the bill with stipulations for further revisions, seeking clarity on the scope of protection and the specific equipment involved.
