South Korea Issues Warning Shots as North Korean Soldiers Cross DMZ

In a tense encounter along the Korean Peninsula, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that warning shots were fired after North Korean soldiers crossed the military demarcation line (MDL). This incident, which marks the first violation of the MDL this year, was reported by Yonhap news agency, citing an unnamed source.
The JCS stated that the shots were fired as part of standard operational procedures to compel the North Korean troops to retreat. Currently, South Korean forces are maintaining heightened military readiness and monitoring North Korean activities closely.
Last year, North Korean forces breached the MDL on 17 occasions, highlighting ongoing tensions between the two nations, which remain technically at war since the 1953 armistice.
