In a decisive visit to Quetta Garrison on Saturday, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir underscored the importance of peace, prosperity, and the welfare of Balochistan's residents amid a troubling uptick in terrorist activities in the region.
The visit was timely, coinciding with a series of counter-terrorism operations that resulted in the deaths of 48 terrorists over a three-day span. Munir was briefed on the current security landscape, operational readiness, and ongoing efforts to enhance stability in the province by the Quetta Corps Commander.
“The peace, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Balochistan remain central to the efforts of the state,” Munir asserted, highlighting that a secure environment is essential for fostering development and economic growth.
Commitment to Development
During his visit, the field marshal emphasized the need for collaboration among law enforcement agencies and state institutions to ensure a conducive atmosphere for sustained economic activity. He recognized the professionalism and commitment of the troops, praising their dedication to maintaining order in challenging circumstances.
Recent Security Challenges
The backdrop of Munir's visit includes a spike in violence, with recent terrorist attacks in Pishin and Chagai. A notable incident involved a thwarted coordinated attack on a police station and other facilities, where five people sustained injuries. The Balochistan government reported that around 40 terrorists engaged law enforcement with heavy weaponry but failed to gain control.
As the security situation worsened, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies noted a seven percent increase in terrorist attacks in Balochistan from July to August, raising concerns over the region's stability.
