Strait of Hormuz Shipping Traffic Plummets Amid US-Iran Tensions

In a significant downturn, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz saw a drastic decrease on Thursday, with only seven vessels navigating the crucial waterway. This drop highlights the growing security concerns as US-Iran diplomatic efforts remain stalled.
According to Kpler data, the number of commodity ships crossing the strait was halved compared to the previous day, with four ships entering and three exiting. Notably, no large crude carriers or LNG tankers were reported in the transit.
Meanwhile, oil prices remained relatively stable, with Brent crude futures inching up to $93.82 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) slipped slightly to $86.78. These prices are still on track for a second consecutive weekly increase, driven by ongoing disruptions in the Middle East.
The geopolitical landscape continues to shift as the USS George Washington aircraft carrier strike group arrives in the region, replacing the USS Abraham Lincoln, amidst heightened scrutiny of US military actions.
