Taiwan Receives First Shinkansen Train Delivery

In a significant milestone for Taiwan, the nation welcomed its first delivery of advanced shinkansen trains from Japan on Saturday. The 12 N700ST train cars, known for their striking orange and black design, arrived at Kaohsiung's port.

Transport Minister Chen Shih-kai emphasized the importance of this delivery, stating that these trains symbolize future industrial and urban growth. Taiwan High Speed Rail has plans to incorporate these trains into service starting July 2027, aiming to boost peak transport capacity by 25%.

The ¥124 billion order was secured by a Japanese consortium comprising Hitachi and Toshiba. Takuya Yamakawa, the consortium's head, expressed confidence that these trains will enhance Taiwanese society. The N700ST model is designed for efficiency, producing less noise and using less electricity, marking a significant advancement in rail technology.
