In a significant milestone for Taiwan’s transportation network, the nation has received its first delivery of the N700ST Shinkansen trains from Japan. The 12 train cars, distinguished by their striking orange and black stripes on a white exterior, arrived at the Kaohsiung port on Saturday.

Transport Minister Chen Shih-kai heralded the arrival as a crucial step towards enhancing industrial and urban growth. With the new trains scheduled to commence service starting July 2027, Taiwan High Speed Rail anticipates a 25% increase in peak-time capacity.

Produced by a collaborative effort between Hitachi and Toshiba, this order is valued at 124 billion yen. Takuya Yamakawa, of the consortium, expressed confidence that the N700ST would greatly benefit Taiwanese society. This model, based on the latest N700S design, promises reduced noise, vibration, and energy consumption.
