Lani Pallister Ends Ledecky's 800m Gold Streak at Pan Pacifics

In a stunning upset at the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, Australia's Lani Pallister triumphed over American swimming legend Katie Ledecky, marking Ledecky's first defeat in the 800m freestyle at a major international event. Pallister finished with a time of 8:06.10, leading from start to finish, while Ledecky, who has dominated this event since her Olympic gold in 2012, clocked in at 8:07.26.

Ledecky, a 13-time international gold medalist in the 800m, had previously only lost to Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh during a sectional meet. Despite her impressive track record, she couldn't catch Pallister this time, even as Ledecky attempted her signature late surge.

Pallister, who previously defeated Ledecky in the 400m freestyle earlier in the week, celebrated her victory and expressed gratitude towards Ledecky for her impact on women's distance swimming. Other Australian swimmers also shone at the event, with Jamie Jack winning the men's 50m freestyle and Zac Stubblety-Cook claiming gold in the 200m breaststroke.
