A devastating landslide at a landfill in Conakry has resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals, as reported by Guinea's central government following severe rainfall. The disaster occurred early Sunday morning when torrential rains triggered a massive collapse at the Dar Es Salam dump, engulfing nearby homes and makeshift shelters.
Emergency services sprang into action, with reports indicating that six people sustained serious injuries while another 16 were treated for minor wounds. The scale of the collapse was so significant that it buried an entire apartment building, leaving families in distress.
Local resident Cire Diallo expressed her heartbreak, stating, "I have lost all my children. All I can do is put my trust in God." The landfill, the largest in Conakry, was scheduled to close on the same day due to safety concerns amid the rainy season. Minister Dienabou Touré assured that the government would assist displaced families and facilitate their relocation.
