Trump Issues Stark Warning to Oman Amid Iran Negotiations

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

In a bold and controversial statement, President Donald Trump threatened military action against Oman, a key U.S. ally, if it interferes in ongoing discussions with Iran. Reports indicate that Trump made these remarks during a phone call with Fox News, asserting that the United States maintains a direct backchannel to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Oman, which has positioned itself as a neutral mediator in the conflict, has been involved in negotiations with Iran regarding shipping routes through the crucial Strait of Hormuz. The strait is vital for global oil and liquefied natural gas transportation, yet it has been largely blocked by Iran since tensions escalated following U.S. and Israeli strikes in February.

Trump's inflammatory comment included, "If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the shit out of them." This threat surfaced as Iranian officials announced they were close to finalizing an agreement with Oman regarding transit routes. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that progress had been made and that a joint statement would soon follow.

Contrary to Trump's claims, the IRGC denied any involvement in talks with the U.S., labeling the president's statement as a fabrication stemming from his own political anxieties. As the 60-day Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the U.S. and Iran approached its expiration, Iran indicated that any full reopening of the strait would depend on compensation from the U.S. for previous violations.

While discussing the situation, Trump emphasized that he was not in a rush to resolve the conflict, describing Iranian leaders as skilled negotiators who are nonetheless under pressure. He also dismissed concerns over the depletion of U.S. weapon stockpiles, asserting that the military resources used thus far were minimal.
