Allegations Surface Against N.O.R.E. in 1999 Sexual Assault Case

Queens rapper and podcast host N.O.R.E. is now embroiled in serious legal trouble as a former music executive has accused him of sexual assault, an incident that allegedly occurred in a Manhattan nightclub in 1999.

Carmen Bryan, who worked as a finance officer for Def Jam affiliate Rush Management, claims that during a promotional event for N.O.R.E.'s album, Melvin Flynt – Da Hustler, he forcibly digitally penetrated her in front of friends and other patrons. According to the lawsuit, Bryan's cries for help were only answered when nearby bystanders intervened, pulling Santiago away from her.

After the assault, Bryan reported that Santiago followed her outside, making inappropriate comments and questioning her identity, apparently unaware of her connection to rapper Nas. It was only after recognizing her that he reportedly remarked, "Carm, I didn’t know it was you. You’re always doing something different with your hair." In a bid to settle the matter, Bryan sent a pre-suit settlement notice to Santiago in March, outlining the unlawful actions and the emotional toll they took on her.

Heather Palmore, Bryan’s attorney, emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable, stating, "No woman signs up to be assaulted." She criticized the notion that the lack of recognition could excuse an assault, highlighting the need to challenge a culture that disregards women's rights and experiences. As the situation unfolds, Pitchfork has reached out to N.O.R.E.'s legal team for a response.
