Quel Launches Telemedicine Services for Addiction Treatment Using GLP-1s

By Editor • September 9, 2026 • 1 min read

In a pioneering move in the field of addiction treatment, Quel, a new telemedicine company, has announced the launch of its services focusing on GLP-1 medications. These treatments, which include semaglutide, will be available to patients across 41 states and represent an extension of a program initially tested at Caron Treatment Centers in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Steven Klein, co-founder and chief medical officer at Quel, emphasized the innovative nature of using GLP-1s for addiction management, stating, "We’re using something off-label under the umbrella of addiction, whether that be food, sex, alcohol, or opioids." While the FDA has not yet approved these medications specifically for substance use disorders, they are being prescribed off-label based on emerging clinical evidence.

Interest in GLP-1s for addiction treatment has surged, with numerous studies now exploring their efficacy, particularly in relation to alcohol use disorder. As the medical community looks to expand treatment options for addiction, Quel's approach marks a significant step into uncharted territory, potentially reshaping how these disorders are treated.
