LG TVs Under Fire for Alleged Tracking of Nearby Devices

Recent findings have raised concerns regarding LG TVs and their potential to monitor devices connected to the same network. A collaboration between the YouTube channel Gamers Nexus and Level1Techs has uncovered troubling evidence suggesting that LG TVs, including the high-end G5 OLED model, may be scanning local area networks (LAN) for other devices even when they are powered off.
During their investigation, the team shared packet captures that revealed the G5 OLED TV actively searching for various connected devices. "The [G5] crawled our entire network and found dozens of unrelated devices, including smartwatches and phones of our staff who didn't even know we were working on this,” noted Steve Burke, editor-in-chief of Gamers Nexus. This alarming discovery has prompted questions about user privacy and the extent to which smart devices track their surroundings.
