Startup Mecka AI, which specializes in gathering and analyzing human motion data for robot training, is on the brink of securing a new financing round led by Sequoia Capital, potentially valuing the company at approximately $500 million.
This latest funding follows a recent $60 million investment round completed just three months earlier, which was led by Framework Ventures and included contributions from Menlo Ventures, SV Angel, and Kindred Ventures. Although the specific details of the new round are yet to be finalized, sources indicate that the investment is significant.
Founded in 2024 by a team of four entrepreneurs, including Canadians Josh Gao and Mogen Cheng, along with Jason Chong and Duy Nguyen, Mecka AI aims to address the shortage of physical-world data necessary for training general-purpose robots. The startup employs an innovative approach by compensating individuals to document everyday tasks, utilizing body sensors and smartphones. This egocentric method of data collection is crucial for developing advanced AI models in robotics.
