Mellody Hobson shared heartfelt reflections on her husband, George Lucas, during a special preview of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. The event, held for friends and family, showcased the culmination of two decades of dedication to the museum's creation.

The Journey of Creation

Hobson expressed her admiration for Lucas, whom she described as fanatical in his pursuit of artistic representation. "I watched George up close," she recalled, noting how his passion for illustrators and storytelling inspired her deeply. Despite not being present for the early milestones of his career, she recognized the genius in his work and the unwavering commitment he demonstrated.

Emotional Moments and Community Support

As she spoke, emotions ran high, especially when Hobson reflected on the journey leading to the museum's opening. "We are amazed that we’re limping to the finish line," she expressed, highlighting the support from the community throughout the process. The museum, designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, features 1,200 pieces from Lucas's private collection and includes 30 galleries.

Hobson's remarks resonated with the audience, especially when she thanked the artists present. Her journey from a Chicago upbringing to being part of such a significant cultural landmark seemed surreal to her. "Those words don’t even make sense for me," she concluded, encapsulating the wonder of the occasion.
