Recovery Efforts in Gaza Uncover Remains of 55 Individuals Nearly Three Years After Airstrike

In a poignant development from Gaza, the remains of 55 Palestinians have been unearthed from the wreckage of a residential building destroyed by an Israeli airstrike almost three years ago. The recovery operation concluded on Saturday, marking a significant step in the ongoing effort to locate victims buried under the rubble of the war-torn region.

The operation focused on the Malka family home, located in the Zeitoun neighborhood, which was struck on November 19, 2023. Colonel Muhammad Abu Dan, overseeing the recovery teams, stated that they had been searching for over 60 bodies from the Malka family during the past 72 hours. His plea to international humanitarian organizations highlights the dire need for heavy machinery to assist in these recovery efforts.

As the search continues, Gaza's Ministry of Health reported that hospitals received 17 bodies and 27 injured individuals over the last 48 hours, with three additional Palestinians injured due to ongoing Israeli attacks. The rising death toll since the conflict reignited last October has reached 73,470, with more than 174,540 reported injuries. While a joint funeral for the recovered remains is anticipated next weekend, many victims are still trapped beneath the rubble, further emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian support.
