At the Toronto International Film Festival, Sebastian Stan expressed his concerns about the pervasive negativity in society, particularly as it relates to his upcoming film, Fjord.

During a conversation at The Hollywood Reporter’s Studio, Stan highlighted how this trend of negativity has become normalized, particularly in online interactions. He described it as 'lazy,' noting that many individuals engage in judgment without offering constructive solutions or counterarguments. 'It’s just unfortunate because you see people just react. They don’t know what they’re talking about,' he said.

While Stan refrained from directly naming the sources of this negativity, he did hint that it 'starts at the top.' His previous role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice brought him into the political spotlight, and he reflected on the broader implications of leadership and societal attitudes. 'We’re so special as people…if we can just be curious about it,' he stated, urging individuals, especially the youth, to form their own opinions rather than echoing negativity.

Set against the backdrop of a progressive Norwegian village, Fjord tells the story of a Romanian family's struggles with acceptance. Stan noted that the film serves as an 'invitation to be more tolerant' and challenges viewers to consider the complexities of parenting in today’s world—a theme he personally relates to after recently welcoming his first child.

'I don’t know as much as I thought I did,' Stan admitted, reflecting on the challenges of raising children and the importance of cultural and familial legacies. With Fjord set to release on October 9, he believes the film will resonate differently with various audiences, highlighting the diverse perspectives that come from personal experiences.
