Tragic Landslides Claim Lives in Eastern China Amid Typhoon Aftermath

In a devastating incident, landslides triggered by heavy rains have resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals in eastern China, with three more still unaccounted for. These tragic events unfolded in Jiangxi province, where the mudslides struck Mingkeng village on September 5, 2026, shortly after Typhoon Saudel unleashed torrential downpours in the region.
State media outlet Xinhua reported that the initial landslide claimed 12 lives, with one person reported missing in Mingkeng. The situation worsened as additional landslides occurred in nearby townships, Zuo'an and Tanghu, leading to one more confirmed death and two individuals still missing.
The impact of the mudslides has been severe, damaging homes and destabilizing roads. In response, more than 170 rescue workers have been deployed to search for the missing. The extreme weather conditions have forced several cities in the region to suspend work, schools, and transportation services as safety measures.
