Twin Cities Gear Up for PTI Protest with Heavy Security Measures

By Editor • September 11, 2026 • 1 min read

As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for a nationwide protest on September 27, the administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are ramping up security measures to ensure public order. Authorities are taking proactive steps including the issuance of detention orders for activists and the procurement of substantial resources to manage the anticipated demonstration.

The Islamabad police have made a significant request for over 1,000 containers to seal off key areas, including the Red Zone and major highways. This strategy aims to obstruct the movement of protesters and maintain control over the city’s entry and exit points. So far, more than 100 containers have been strategically placed throughout the capital, with additional arrangements in the pipeline as the police brace for the protest.

In a related move, the Rawalpindi administration has issued detention orders for 30 PTI activists under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act, allowing for preventive detention to avert potential disruptions. These orders are set for a duration of 30 days, with the possibility of extension up to 90 days. The local police and intelligence units are increasing their surveillance on PTI leaders and supporters to gather intelligence ahead of the mobilization.
