A NEW campaign launched by Love Haslemere Hate Waste has won the support of a movie star.
Award-winning actor Hugh Bonneville has donated a dazzling Whitley wool jacket to Love Style Hate Waste.
The campaign encourages everyone to do their part to reduce the estimated value of £ 140 million in clothing that is deposited in landfills every year.
Love Style Hate Waste will culminate with a prefabricated clothing exchange event and a parade at Woolmer Hill School on Saturday, March 28 from 6:30 p.m.
The sustainable style event will display donated clothing and accessories, including items from the city's Plum Dress Agency, which can be purchased at night to raise funds for a community repair cafe.
Personal stylists, stylists and makeup artists will offer style advice and a system of tokens to exchange and buy will be implemented.
Bonneville has led the way and more donations of high-quality pre-loved clothes are being sought.
Items can be left at Oliver’s Café on Charter Walk.
An entry ticket will be delivered to the catwalk in exchange for each donation.
The new campaign is launched in partnership with the Instagram channel Spinning Old into Gold, created by Sarah Secker-Barker.
Victoria Page, founder of Love Haslemere Hate Waste, said: “The average life of a garment is about two years. If we can extend that for only nine months, we can significantly reduce its environmental impact. ”
