Chinese Box Office Highlights: 'Once Upon a Time in the Middle East' Dominates Again

During the weekend of August 21-23, Dirty Monkeys' war comedy-drama, “Once Upon a Time in the Middle East,” retained its position at the top of the Chinese box office, earning RMB298.8 million ($43.9 million) in its second weekend.
Directed by Wen Muye, the film has now grossed a remarkable $232.2 million since its release on August 11. The plot revolves around a Chinese chef who turns his restaurant into a haven amid regional conflict.
In second place, Pearl River Film Group's crime drama “V” debuted with $18.9 million, accumulating $30.7 million following its August 19 premiere. Universal's “The Odyssey” secured third place with $15.9 million, while Pearl Studio's animated feature “All Wishes Come True!” and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” rounded out the top five.
