On August 16, 2026, the Minahassa Peninsula in Indonesia experienced a significant earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences.

The quake struck at a depth of 68 kilometers in the Gulf of Tomini at 21:55 IST. This seismic event follows a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake earlier that day, which resulted in over 40 fatalities.

In response to the ongoing seismic activity, authorities initially issued a tsunami warning, advising residents along the coast to seek higher ground. However, this warning was later rescinded after the meteorological agency reported no significant changes in sea levels.
