French swimmer Léon Marchand showcased his prowess by winning gold in the 400m freestyle final at the European Championships held in Saint-Denis, near Paris, on Sunday. This victory marks his second gold medal at the event, following his earlier triumph in the 200m butterfly.
Marchand clocked an impressive time of 3:43.14, finishing 1.32 seconds ahead of Hungary's Oliver Papai, who took silver. The bronze medal was secured by Germany's Lukas Martens, the world record holder.
Despite racing a limited schedule due to recovery from a thigh injury, the 24-year-old swimmer continues to shine on the European stage. Earlier in the day, he had qualified as the fourth-fastest in the heats for the 400m freestyle.
In other events, Hungarian swimmer Hubert Kos claimed the men’s 200m individual medley title, marking his third gold of the championships. Italy's Simona Quadarella made waves in the women's 400m freestyle, finishing strong after overtaking her competitors in the final stretch.
