Modern Moscow Apartment Inspired by Traditional Korean Design

In the heart of Moscow, an innovative apartment designed by Inga Kordya merges modern living with the architectural essence of traditional Korean hanoks. Spanning 1,800 square feet, the apartment is tailored for a Korean family, providing a unique blend of cultural heritage and contemporary style.

Inga Kordya drew inspiration from her studies of 14th-century buildings in South Korea's historic districts, infusing the space with elements that mimic the hanok's flexible design. The living room, featuring custom tinted oak shutter doors, captures and diffuses sunlight much like the changhoji paper used in traditional homes. This clever design enhances the apartment's ambiance, creating a dynamic interplay of light and space.

Central to the layout are three bedrooms and bathrooms arranged around a hall that serves as a circulation point, reminiscent of the madang courtyard in a hanok. The girls' shared room includes a sliding partition, allowing for adaptable play areas. Kordya's selection of materials, from marble to brass, emphasizes texture over color, enhancing the light strategy and creating a serene yet functional environment.
