Sophie Adenot Reflects on Her Remarkable Spacewalks from the ISS

French astronaut Sophie Adenot recently shared her exhilarating experiences from the International Space Station (ISS), celebrating a successful mission that included two spacewalks to replace a vital antenna. In an exclusive interview with FRANCE 24 and RFI, she described the operations as a 'miracle' given the technical challenges encountered.
Adenot, who conducted France's first-ever female spacewalk, performed the second operation on August 25 alongside her American colleague, Anil Menon. The duo successfully installed a new Space-to-Ground Antenna (SGANT) after overcoming stubborn mechanical issues during their initial attempt. 'Psychologically, mentally, I feel great,' she stated, reflecting on the pressures they faced. 'It’s actually a miracle that it only took two tries and not more.'
From her vantage point 400 kilometers above Earth, she noted the stark visual evidence of climate change, witnessing a dramatic transformation of landscapes from green to grey and yellow, indicative of the hot, dry summer. 'Climate change and hot, dry summers are very visible. It’s blatant,' Adenot remarked.
As she prepares to return to Earth in about a month, Adenot hopes to share her newfound perspective and inspire others to pursue similar paths in space exploration. With another spacewalk planned before September 1, her mission continues to captivate audiences back home.
