Tragedy Strikes as Gangs Attack Church Shelter in Haiti

In a devastating incident on Sunday night, approximately 40 displaced individuals seeking refuge in a church near Port-au-Prince were brutally killed by gang members, according to local authorities.

Kenscoff's Mayor Massillon Jean described the attack as a “night of terror,” revealing that the victims were targeted while hiding from ongoing violence. He confirmed that searches are underway, with some people still unaccounted for.

The assailants not only executed several victims but also inflicted injuries on dozens more and abducted others from the displaced persons camp. In response to the escalating violence, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime expressed condolences to the victims' families and announced plans to bolster security in the area.

Haiti has long struggled with rampant gang violence, political instability, and natural disasters, leaving nearly 1.5 million people displaced and over five million facing severe food insecurity, according to UN estimates.
