UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to embark on his inaugural overseas trip to Ukraine on Monday, where he will announce significant British support for the country’s long-range missile production efforts.
During his visit, Burnham will co-chair a meeting with the Coalition of the Willing, a coalition of nations assisting Ukraine, and meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. His office revealed that Britain will allow European missile manufacturer MBDA to disclose classified information regarding British-made components for the SCALP long-range cruise missile, facilitating local assembly lines in Ukraine and France.
Burnham emphasized the interconnectedness of security, stating, “Ukraine's security is our security,” pledging Britain's unwavering support for Ukraine amid ongoing conflict. Since Russia's invasion in 2022, the UK has been a steadfast ally, providing over £25 billion ($34 billion) in military and economic aid. The visit comes shortly after Zelenskiy met Burnham in Britain as part of his first international engagements.
