China Deploys Advanced Satellite to Aid Flood Relief in Nepal

In a significant move to bolster humanitarian efforts, China has activated its advanced Fengyun-4C satellite to monitor severe weather conditions in Nepal. This state-of-the-art geostationary weather satellite is playing a crucial role in the ongoing search and rescue operations prompted by the recent catastrophic glacier collapse.

Fengyun-4C: A Technological Marvel

Launched in December 2025, the Fengyun-4C satellite orbits at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers (22,000 miles) above the equator. It is equipped with a cutting-edge Lightning Mapping Imager (LMI), capable of capturing an impressive 500 frames per second. This advanced imaging technology enables the satellite to process around 30 gigabits of data every minute, providing vital information in real-time.
