Citi Survey Reveals US Pharma Executives Skeptical About AI in Drug Development

Despite a growing trend in the pharmaceutical industry to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into drug research, a recent survey indicates that only a small fraction of US pharma executives believe it will result in successful drug development.
The survey conducted by Citi, released on Tuesday, highlights a notable disparity between the adoption of AI technologies and the confidence in their effectiveness. While AI is seen as a transformative tool in accelerating drug discovery, only 24% of executives are optimistic about its potential to produce successful drugs.
John Yung, the head of Asia healthcare research at Citi, emphasized a critical concern among industry leaders. He pointed out that the primary risk surrounding AI in drug discovery lies not in its ability to speed up the discovery process, but rather in the possibility that this acceleration does not lead to the creation of superior drugs or an increased likelihood of success in clinical trials.
