Katie Boulter Stumbles in Swift US Open Exit

Katie Boulter, the British number one, faced a harsh reality at the US Open, suffering a swift defeat in the second round against Czech seventh seed Karolina Muchova. The match, which was moved to the 14,000-capacity Louis Armstrong Stadium due to heavy rain in New York, lasted just 58 minutes, with Boulter managing to win only a single game, ultimately falling 6-1, 6-0.

Reflecting on her performance, Boulter described it as a "bad day at the office" and acknowledged her struggles throughout the match. "I struggled with the conditions, the roof, the noise… it made me feel a little bit uncomfortable. I have to deal with it better," she admitted.

In stark contrast to Boulter’s performance, Muchova showcased her skill, landing 14 winners and committing just nine unforced errors, while Boulter's game was marred by eight double faults and a dismal 33% success rate on her first serve. Former world number five Daniela Hantuchova suggested that Boulter needs to make significant changes to her game, emphasizing the importance of improving her serve and maintaining rhythm on the court.

While Boulter faced disappointment, Francesca Jones found success in her first-round match against Poland's Magda Linette, which was interrupted by rain. Jones overcame a shaky second set to claim the match, securing her second career Grand Slam victory. She expressed relief at having pulled through the challenging match, demonstrating resilience despite early nerves.

Meanwhile, Jacob Fearnley’s journey also came to an end as he lost to Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry after a promising first-round comeback. Fellow Briton Jan Choinski similarly exited the tournament, defeated by Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.
