Perth's New $100 Million Social Housing Project Breaks Ground

By Editor • September 13, 2026 • 1 min read

The Western Australian government has announced a significant investment exceeding $100 million for a new 30-storey apartment complex in the heart of Perth's CBD. This ambitious project aims to address the pressing housing shortage in the area by offering 174 one- and two-bedroom rental units.

Located on Roe Street, adjacent to the iconic Perth Arena, the development is designed to provide a mix of affordable and social housing, with 139 units designated for affordable housing and 35 for social housing. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the government, which is currently overseeing the construction of 21 similar projects throughout Western Australia, totaling approximately 1,500 new apartments.

Housing Minister John Carey emphasized the urgency of the project, stating that the state is committed to accelerating housing supply with the backing of the federal government's Housing Australia Future Fund. He remarked, "Never have we seen in our state’s history so many build-to-rent projects underway," highlighting the importance of proximity to amenities and jobs in the development's design.
