In the heart of Madrid's Imperial neighborhood, a 1960s apartment has undergone a stunning transformation, expertly reimagined by architects Alessio Lamarca and Marta Ciabattini. Measuring just 48 square meters, the original apartment featured three bedrooms, a separate kitchen, and a living room that had remained largely untouched for decades. The outdated finishes and compartmentalized layout posed significant challenges, yet the architects saw potential in redesigning the space around the actual habits and routines of its future occupant. By eliminating unnecessary elements, they refined the layout to include two bedrooms, a bathroom, and an open living area, prioritizing how each space would be utilized in everyday life.
Color as a Structural Element
Color plays a pivotal role in this renovation, with shades of coral, pink, deep blue, and green enhancing the overall aesthetic while also defining different areas within the apartment. The architects treated color as a construction material, using it to delineate zones and facilitate movement throughout the space.
