US Energy Secretary Casts Doubt on Iran Nuclear Deal Amid Rising Tensions

The prospect of a nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran appears increasingly uncertain. In a recent interview, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright expressed skepticism about achieving a nuclear deal, suggesting a shift in U.S. strategy toward more aggressive measures against Iran.

During his appearance on ABC News, Wright stated that "there may not" be a nuclear deal, indicating that the U.S. might consider targeting Iranian nuclear capabilities rather than pursuing diplomatic avenues. He emphasized the importance of degrading Iran's potential to develop nuclear weapons, noting, "It may be simply destroying their capabilities to do it."

Wright’s comments come in the wake of renewed military exchanges between U.S. and Iranian forces, following the collapse of a memorandum of understanding in July. Despite these tensions, the Trump administration has attempted to downplay the situation, with President Trump referring to the conflict as "small potatoes" and Vice President JD Vance suggesting that the situation has cooled.

Looking ahead, Wright hinted that a potential agreement could emerge under a different Iranian administration, stating, "An agreement may await the next administration in Iran." As the U.S. prepares to enhance its military posture in the region, he assured that collaboration with allies would be integral to the efforts against Iran.
