Australia Unites in Mourning for Nepal Flood Victims

As rescue efforts continue in Nepal, communities across Australia have come together to honor those lost in the devastating floods. Vigils have been held in major cities, including Brisbane and Darwin, where hundreds lit candles in memory of victims.
In Brisbane, the Nepali community organized a candlelight vigil at King George Square, attracting a large crowd. Treasurer Jim Chalmers expressed support for the Nepali people, acknowledging the tragedy's extensive impact. The Nepalese Association of Queensland (NAQ) reported many lives lost and thousands still unaccounted for, with NAQ president Tikaram Sarma revealing that a cousin is among the missing.
Meanwhile, in Darwin, approximately 100 people gathered on the steps of the Northern Territory parliament, each candle symbolizing a life lost and hope for those still missing. Trilochan Sapkota from the Non-Resident Nepali Association highlighted the tragedy's far-reaching consequences.
The Australian government has committed additional resources, sending 12 more crisis officials to assist in recovery and pledging $3 million in aid. As the search for survivors enters its fifth day, communities remain united in grief and support.
