Studio Mehta: Pioneering Sustainable Luxury in Kenyan Architecture

By Editor • August 19, 2026 • 1 min read

Established in 2019 by architect Amar Mehta, Studio Mehta is making waves in the architectural scene from its base in Nairobi. The studio has been recognized in the Wallpaper* Architects Directory 2026, highlighting its innovative approach to design that harmonizes with local culture and climate.

The firm’s philosophy centers on crafting spaces that resonate with the people who inhabit them. Mehta emphasizes the importance of working closely with clients and local artisans to create not just visually appealing homes, but meaningful environments. ‘Architecture should respond honestly to place, people, and culture,’ he asserts.

One of Studio Mehta’s standout projects is Ua House, Mehta's personal residence located along Kenya’s stunning Kilifi coastline. The home showcases a commitment to sustainable construction by utilizing salvaged materials, including limestone blocks and quarry dust. Spanning 120 square meters, the design beautifully marries traditional Omani and Swahili influences, featuring several courtyards and a pool terrace that encourages a seamless blend with nature.

Mehta's work exemplifies accessible sustainability, demonstrating how thoughtful architectural choices can minimize environmental impact while celebrating local heritage. As the Wallpaper* Architects Directory marks its 25th anniversary, Studio Mehta stands out as a promising force in the future of architecture.
