Ukrainian Drone Strikes Hit Ozon, Russia's Second-Largest Online Retailer

Ukrainian drone assaults have targeted Ozon, Russia's second-largest online retailer, igniting multiple warehouses across southern regions including Krasnodar, Dagestan, and Stavropol. Reports indicate that several individuals suffered injuries due to the overnight attacks, which Ozon confirmed resulted in significant fires at its logistics facilities.

For weeks, Ukraine has been focusing on striking economic entities linked to the military, having previously targeted Wildberries, Russia's biggest online marketplace. Ukrainian officials assert that these firms are legitimate military targets, a claim Moscow contests. Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned Ukraine's actions, warning that it had opened a "Pandora's box" and promising retaliation against Ukraine's critical economic sectors.

The drone strike in Dagestan occurred early Monday, around 05:00 local time, leading to a major fire at the logistics centre. Similar incidents were reported in Krasnodar, approximately 700 km away, where a significant blaze was also confirmed. The Russian defense ministry reported that three children lost their lives in Krasnodar due to the drone strikes, with additional injuries reported among minors.

Ozon's stock suffered a steep decline on the Moscow Exchange, dropping by up to 12% in the wake of the attacks, while shares of its major shareholder, AFK Sistema, plummeted nearly 13%. The Kremlin acknowledged the situation, stating it was discussing potential support options with business representatives.

Founded in 1998, Ozon has become crucial for Russian consumers, particularly in remote areas lacking retail access, serving as a vital link for purchasing everyday items. The recent assaults on Ozon and Wildberries have made the ongoing conflict more palpable for ordinary Russians, reflecting the war's impact on daily life.
