Monsoon Rains Set to Hit Upper Pakistan: PMD Forecasts Severe Weather from Sept 12-17

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast indicating that monsoon rains will begin affecting various regions in the upper parts of the country starting tomorrow, September 12, and continuing through September 17. The weather agency noted that these rains will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures.
Regions Expecting Rainfall
According to the PMD advisory, areas in Kashmir are predicted to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers, along with potential isolated hailstorms in regions such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Poonch. This pattern will also extend to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where similar weather conditions are anticipated through the week.
Warnings of Urban Flooding
As the monsoon advances, the PMD has issued warnings regarding potential urban flooding in numerous low-lying areas, including major urban centers like Islamabad, Faisalabad, and Lahore, particularly from September 14 to 17. Additionally, flash floods may pose risks in local streams across various districts, including Dir and Chitral.
Advisories for Travelers and Farmers
In light of the anticipated severe weather, the PMD has urged tourists and travelers to exercise caution. Farmers are also advised to adjust their agricultural activities in response to the changing conditions. The possibility of landslides in hilly regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan has also been highlighted, indicating the need for vigilance in these areas.
