Tragic Landslides in Jiangxi Claim 16 Lives Amid Typhoon Aftermath

The aftermath of relentless rainfall in southeastern China has resulted in tragic landslides that have claimed 16 lives in Jiangxi province. Rescuers continue their search for survivors as the situation evolves following the disaster that struck last weekend.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Teams have been actively searching the affected regions, particularly in Suichuan County, where the majority of the fatalities occurred. State media reported that a devastating mudslide in Gaoping town accounted for 13 of the lives lost, while two others perished in Zuo’an town and one in Tanghu town.
Impact of Typhoon Saudel
The heavy rains that led to these tragic events were a direct result of Typhoon Saudel, which made landfall in China’s coastal provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian between August 28 and September 3. Following the typhoon's passage, over 18,000 residents have been evacuated from Suichuan County, where ongoing rainfall has caused significant instability and danger.
In addition to the toll in Jiangxi, two more lives were lost in neighboring Hunan province due to similar weather conditions triggered by the typhoon, highlighting the widespread impact of this severe weather.
